The Finance team, led by the Chief Financial Officer, exists to support the strategic and financial aims of the Institute through the regular planning, controlling and reporting of the financial operations including the Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) and Australian Bioresources (ABR).

Garvan is undertaking a transition from monthly to fortnightly payroll processing. This will go-live in February 2025.

THE OPPORTUNITY The Payroll Officer processes and administers end to end payroll activities to ensure all payroll transactions are accurate and timely. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Officer role will act as 2IC to the Payroll Manager. Is responsible for payroll processing, including permanent and casual payroll, employee record maintenance and responding to stakeholders regarding payroll queries. The role will be on a part time basis (0.6 FTE) and will ensure that the payroll system is maintained in accordance with internal policies and external regulations.

Salary: FTE $80,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging (Prorated $48,000)
Employment Type: 3 days a week (22.8 hours)

Minimum TAFE Diploma in Accounting At least 3 years' experience within the Payroll Officer function, preferably in a high-volume environment Understanding of the not-for-profit sector, including salary packaging arrangements would be considered advantageous Exposure to Workday and ADP systems preferable Highly proficient computer skills Excellent communication skills and attention to detail Ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines Demonstrates proactive problem-solving by taking the lead in identifying areas for improvement and suggesting innovative solutions Team player who demonstrates strong collaboration skills by working effectively with colleagues across various departments to achieve common goals.
