The Payroll and Finance Officer plays a key role within the Financial Reporting and Payroll team, processing payroll, benefits, maintaining accurate employee records and compliance with employment terms and conditions, taxation, legislative and audit requirements. This role also supports essential accounting tasks, contributing to the monthly and annual financial reporting processes to meet management and statutory reporting obligations.
The team The role is a key contact within the Financial Reporting and Payroll team, which sits within the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services Division (ChES). The team is responsible for partnering with all divisions across APRA, ensuring quality outcomes with regards to payroll related matters, financial reporting and control.
Key responsibilities Assist in the end-to-end payroll and payroll related processes in an accurate and timely manner.Stay up to date and ensure compliance with relevant employment, taxation, superannuation, privacy, and other legislative requirements.Assist with the production of end of month, end of quarter, end of year reports and ad-hoc payroll related reports, as required.Provide excellent customer service, respond to enquiries / requests from employees, managers, business managers, auditors, Human Services, ABS etc.Assist with Defined Benefits super as per rules to each DB Plan, novated car leases, LAFHA and relevant FBT.Assist with the preparation of basic month-end journals, such as cash and prepayment journals.Supporting the broader Finance team across month end and year end activities which may involve business as usual items, compliance, reviews and ad-hoc requests.About you Demonstrated skills and experience in payroll and benefits administration, including taxation, superannuation, workplace agreements, and employment legislation.Internal controls skills focused on the performance of transactional processes, systems and efficiency.Ability to prioritise and strong time management skills.Experience with payroll systems (Aurion, Microsoft 365).Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills for liaising, addressing enquiries and developing relationships.Ability to investigate and solve problems.High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Knowledge of Financial Management Information Systems (Oracle) would be beneficial, but not essential.To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance.
