Empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through engagement, wellbeing, and authentic community partnerships with BCE.

About the role: Assist schools to develop an agreed way forward, in partnership with community, to improve attendance, retention and educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Support schools to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in a positive learning environment through productive partnerships with Elders, families, local service providers and businesses for educational opportunities that are respectful and relevant. Work collaboratively with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, specialist and support staff in schools to build genuine partnerships and trust. Contribute to professional learning and activities which promote staff cultural competency and sensitivity to enhance the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Maintain and develop professional learning knowledge, practices and relationships. About you: Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and protocols. Experience communicating effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Management experience working across a region supporting both primary and secondary schools. Collaboration skills and the ability to build trust and form productive relationships, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, specialist and support staff in schools. Ability to provide culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and the school community. Current drivers licence and ability to travel across our 146 schools. Certificate level/Diploma qualifications or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. * Brisbane Catholic Education considers that being an Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) as amended. Hold or be eligible to hold a Positive Notice Blue card for working with children. Provide proof of identity at the interview as part of the pre-employment screening process. All BCE employees will be: Eligible to work in Australia. Committed to safeguarding children and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children. Required to conduct Working With Children (WWC) and background referencing for all persons who will engage in direct and regular involvement with children and young people and/or adults-at-risk.
