Nurse Practitioner Candidate, Queensland HealthThe Nurse Practitioner Candidate works within the Nurse Led Clinic (Gladstone) and demonstrates excellence in treating a wide range of patients with varying complexity. The objectives of the Nurse Practitioner Candidate service are to provide safe, efficient, quality care to patients and their families presenting to the Nurse Led Clinic.
As the Nurse Practitioner Candidate, you will undertake a program of mentorship, supervision, and professional support to build the skills, knowledge and attributes expected of an endorsed Nurse Practitioner. These include and are not limited to leadership, role modelling and advocating for high standards of care, educating the multi-disciplinary team, and contributing to evidence based practice through involvement in research and quality improvement initiatives.

About us: The new Nurse Led Clinic will complement existing Gladstone Hospital services and will not replace existing models of general practitioner or emergency care. The Nurse Led Clinic is a walk-in clinic, providing care for adults and children presenting with a range of health issues including but not limited to colds, influenza, minor cuts and burns and minor infections and wounds.
About the role: The Nurse Practitioner Candidate is a Nurse Grade 7 Registered Nurse who is working towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner by acquiring the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills, and clinical competencies for expanded autonomous practice. The NPC is an integral member of the health care team who practices in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage patients within their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills.
About you: Mandatory qualification/s: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
The NPC is required to be currently enrolled in a Master of Nurse Practitioner program working towards endorsement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).4 years of Advance Nursing Practice (Clinical Nurse Specialist and above) within a regional or tertiary Emergency Department.Non-mandatory qualifications/requirements: Previous experience working in an emergency care, minor injury or illness clinic or community settings, paediatrics, or child health or as an autonomous practitioner will be well regarded.
