Position Details APS 5 - $81,690 - $89,615 Professional, Ethical Standards & Security Brisbane - QLD, Canberra - ACT, Hobart - TAS, Melbourne - VIC, Perth - WA, Sydney - NSW About Us The People Division, led by the Chief People Officer (CPO), provides human resources (HR) functions for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the department) with a clear focus on the department's most valued asset, its staff.
Alongside contemporary HR functions, projects, and strategies, the People Division is also responsible for:
Enhancing the department's focus on safety Enterprise bargaining Cultural and change management The department's response to Australian Public Service (APS) reforms. The Professional, Ethical Standards and Security Branch is responsible for:
Professional and Ethical Standards Personnel, Information and Capability Security Enterprise Change Management functions The department's Sustainability Taskforce. Professional and Ethical Standards sets the integrity policy framework for the department, and works to prevent, detect, and respond to internal fraud, corruption, and misconduct.
The Job The Professional and Ethical Standards Operations Section has multiple APS 5 level positions within the Referrals and Advisory Team and Investigations Team.
Ethics and Standards Officer The Referrals and Advisory Team receives and assesses reports of suspected integrity concerns and provides advice on the department's integrity framework, including policies and processes.
Conduct assessments of integrity issues, including suspected misconduct, fraud, corruption, and pre-employment screenings, making informed recommendations on outcomes. Provide timely, relevant advice to stakeholders, explaining the department's process for managing integrity concerns. Assist with compiling data for reporting, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines. Develop relationships with key internal stakeholders to manage integrity issues. Investigations Support Officer The Investigations Team conducts preliminary enquiries and investigations into suspected misconduct, including fraud and corruption.
Assist with investigations into suspected integrity issues, including fraud, corruption, and breaches of the APS Code of Conduct. Arrange and assist with interviews of witnesses and respondents, gathering key information. Support correspondence with stakeholders about conduct processes, preparing draft correspondence and briefs for decision-makers and departmental delegates. Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including line managers, HR functions, and external parties. Undertake record keeping and file management tasks, maintaining up-to-date records for compliance and reporting purposes. Assist with the compilation of data for reporting purposes, ensuring that all internal reporting requirements are met. Fraud and Corruption Control Support Officer The Fraud and Corruption Control function manages the department's Fraud and Corruption Control Framework.
Assist with the management of the department's Fraud and Corruption Control Framework. Provide advice and support to staff and business areas on fraud and corruption control matters. Improve departmental awareness and understanding of the fraud and corruption risk assessment process. Provide fraud and corruption prevention and risk advice to divisional areas within the department. Assist with the compilation of data for reporting purposes. What We Are Looking For Knowledge and Experience Previous investigative, analytic, or intelligence experience. Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Sound judgment and neutrality when managing sensitive issues. Capacity to manage confidential information with discretion. Ability to manage work independently, applying strong judgment and prioritisation skills. Experience in applying policies, frameworks, or procedures within a government or corporate setting. Ability to gather, analyse, and interpret information to support decision-making. Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating complex information to stakeholders. Skills and Capabilities Demonstrated ability to use investigation and analytic skills to deliver objective assessments. Demonstrated experience in producing robust and timely reports. Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Analytical skills with the ability to evaluate information and make informed decisions. Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion. Desirable Qualifications Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent) or the ability to obtain within 12 months of commencement.
