ABOUT GEMCOLocated on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

As the Mining Engineer – Closure Planning, you will engage and seek stakeholder input into the 2-year mine closure plan (including short, medium and long-term plans). Success will look like well-defined and executed mine plans that safely deliver annual rehabilitation commitments, agreed final landforms, and optimised closure planning.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
Create and guide the 2-year material movement and rehab plan in line with the Life of Operations Plan (LoOP), TSF, and closure plans, and provide monthly 90-day execution updates.Collaborate with the Closure Studies team on initiatives to improve rehabilitation quality, design and facilitate site trials.Provide site-specific rehabilitation input for Mining Management Plan(s), Disturbance Reports, Closure Cost Estimates, the LoOP and Closure Plan.Optimise the final landform model considering the LoOP material movement plan, closure performance criteria and post-closure risks for the operation.ABOUT YOUYou will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
A commitment to safety and continuous improvement.Exposure to Mine closure and landform.Previous experience in a similar role ideally within an open-cut environment.Competent with mine design and scheduling software packages (Vulcan, Deswik and Spry preferred).Ability to engage across multiple teams and stakeholders to gather input and data.Qualifications for this position are:
Tertiary qualification in Mining, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent with relevant experience).
