Requirements The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has been established to delivery on the Government's climate change and energy agenda and to protect Australia's environment and water resources.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic including taking ownership and initiative, providing professional expertise, and a high level of productivity.
Serve as the technical lead for the deployment, operations and sustainment of large cloud environment. Work with the Architecture Team and Business Units to design, develop and maintain scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures. Provide advanced troubleshooting and response for any cloud operational incidents. Work closely with cross functional teams including security, network and application support teams to ensure seamless integration, operations and support of cloud services. Ensure the cloud platform remains compliant with relevant security and regulatory requirements. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the cloud environment including designs and operating procedures. Provide leadership & advice on the technical aspects of cloud innovation and emerging technology for regulated environments. Implement cost control and cost optimisation for the cloud environment aligned with required service levels and budgets. Skills/experience in one or more disciplines: Minimum of 5 years of experience with Azure in cloud engineering. Professional certification in Azure Solutions Architect Expert. A deep technical understanding of Microsoft Azure infrastructure. Proven experience with Microsoft Entra, M365, Microsoft Well Architected Framework and Azure Landing Zones. Proven experience with developing and deploying infrastructure and applications as code. Experience with cloud migration and common cloud native application architectures and technical blueprints. Knowledge of cloud security concepts including posture management and security baselines for regulated organisations. The ability to write code in PowerShell. Demonstrated high-level analytical and technical problem-solving skills. Excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills. Criteria Essential criteria 1. Demonstrated experience as a Cloud Engineer, preferably within a high-security or Government environment, with a strong track record of designing and implementing secure network solutions.
2. In-depth knowledge of network protocols, network security, and industry standards, with advanced skills in firewall configurations, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
3. Hands-on experience with leading networking technologies and solutions from vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, HP, and Aruba.
4. Proficiency in Routing & Switching, Firewalls, Wireless Networking, WAN & SD-WAN, and Security Appliances, including but not limited to: Security Appliances (e.g., IPS/IDS, Aruba Clearpass, Cisco ISE, MFA) Log Management (Syslog, SIEM) Cloud Networking (Azure & AWS environments).
5. Experience conducting risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify and mitigate potential security threats. Ability to create clear, detailed network design documents, diagrams, and protocols to support architectural decisions and ensure compliance with industry standards.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and liaise with stakeholders at all organizational levels. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues promptly and effectively.
Desirable criteria 1. Experience working in a Commonwealth Government context.
