Sibanye Stillwater Australia, a subsidiary of Sibanye Stillwater Limited (a multinational mining and metals processing group), is a leading mining, tailings management, and economic rehabilitation company. Our flagship Century project in Queensland stands as Australia's largest tailings remining and processing operation.
A rewarding opportunity currently exists for a Metallurgy Technician to join our Sibanye Stillwater Australia team based on site at the Century Mine (Lawn Hill). This position will be offered on a FIFO 15/13 roster.
The purpose of this role is to: Support the Metallurgy and Operations team in optimising the processing plant by conducting metallurgical testing, plant surveys and routine sampling for monitoring and evaluating circuit performance.Report accurate and reproducible results in a safe, timely manner.Key accountabilities shall include: Preparation and analysis of samples using various apparatus including metallurgical preparation and sizing equipment (laser sizer, cyclosizer, sieves), crushers, pulverisers, filter presses, flotation cells and other methods;Calibration, maintenance and cleaning of the MSAs (multi-stream analysers);Accurate compilation and processing of the monthly composite samples;Collection of daily and weekly plant samples for onsite and offsite analyses;Assistance with plant surveys;Complete consumables stocktakes and organise for new stock to be ordered as needed;Safe and environmentally compliant management of reagents / chemicals and laboratory wastes;Follow procedures as outlined in the written safe work instructions (SWIs) / procedures and by senior staff;Inspection of the work areas to identify hazards and implement controls;Actively participate in safety related activities and improvements including safety meetings, risk assessments, CONTAM sampling, development of JHAs / SWIs.Actively engage / participate in shift handovers ensuring information is shared between all parties;Maintain and foster an exceptional work ethic;Taking the initiative to continually improve your work, the overall business and promote the goals of the organisation;Working effectively and collaboratively with immediate colleagues and others in cross-functional relationships;Any other reasonable tasks as requested by Senior Metallurgists or Metallurgy Superintendent.Applicants should possess the following: Technical Skills: Good level of analytical skills and knowledge;Ability to troubleshoot / problem solve;Effective time management ability including managing priorities as directed by the Senior Metallurgists;Intermediate level computer skills in Excel and Word;CCLAS LIMS experience valued.People Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills;Team player with the ability to maintain internal and external relationships;Ability to work unsupervised / independently.Knowledge: Base metals laboratory / laboratory operations knowledge;Familiar with lab equipment such as bench flotation cells, rotary sample dividers, grinding mills, crushers, pulverisers, cyclosizer, sieves, laser sizers.Experience with collecting plant samples.Additional knowledge of MSA (multi-stream analysers) or other on-line analysis systems (desirable).Experience: At least 2 years of site-based experience in a similar role (preferred).Experience in FIFO operations and remote site conditions (preferred).Education, Qualifications, Tickets, Licences: Current First Aid / CPR Certificate;Cert 3 or 4 in Laboratory Skills (desirable).Benefits of working at Sibanye Stillwater Australia: Competitive remuneration with performance-based incentives.Residential dwelling and utilities provided.A dynamic workplace with career progression opportunities.Part of a multinational mining and metals processing group.For more information on Sibanye Stillwater, please refer to our website: Sibanye Stillwater Australia encourages applications from Indigenous Persons, particularly from members of the Communities surrounding the Century operations in Doomadgee, Burketown, Normanton, Karumba, and Mornington Island.
