Medical Co-Director - Surgical Division - Perth Children's Hospital & Neonatology Salary: An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the position will be offered.
Location: Perth Children's Hospital and Neonatology (PCH&N), QEII Campus, Nedlands.

Position Profile This is an exceptional opportunity to join our esteemed team as Medical Co-Director – Surgical Division. Reporting to the Executive Director Perth Children's Hospital and Neonatology (PCHN), you will leverage your professional expertise and extensive experience from acute settings to direct, evaluate, and manage services aligned with our strategic plan and guiding principles.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to steer the operation and sustainability of our surgical services. You will play a key role in enabling positive change, shaping the future of service development, and strengthening innovative models of care.
Your ability to foster a highly collaborative and functional partnership with the Nursing Co-Director will be key to success for both of your roles and enable you to navigate complex decision making, and solve both joint problems, as well as those related to your respective craft groups. Together you will drive a cohesive service focused on delivery of high quality surgical systems and practice, clinical and surgical care, and efficient service delivery, responsive to patient needs now and in the future.
You will play a vital leadership role in supporting Heads of Department across the surgical specialties. Your capacity to facilitate growth, support others in reaching their full professional potential, and facilitate departments to advance clinical care will be valued.
Key responsibilities include: Providing effective medical leadership in clinical governance, safety, quality improvement, strategic planning, optimal resource allocation and reform for the surgical division, in collaboration with the Nurse Co-Director and Perth Children's Hospital and Neonatology Executive Team. Leading as a peer, driving accountability and responding with integrity and situational awareness to manage complex, acute decision-making time frames in surgery. Providing mentorship and support for Heads of Department and fostering collaboration between Clinicians and across Departments and Divisions for the safe and effective care of patients and families. Managing clinical demand, understanding workload and workforce pressures and issues, and furthering our aim to grow and foster our exceptional workforce of highly skilled professionals. Addressing surgical system issues and representing the surgical division in clinical and corporate governance within the hospital. Supporting the development of advance practice nursing roles, and of junior medical roles to build the next generation of professionals and support them in their growth, ensuring evidence-based practice and research drive clinical advancements. Ensuring safe and high-quality standards of clinical practice and the management of clinical and corporate risk, including coordination of education and training for medical staff to meet accreditation standards. Providing mentorship and support to staff, fostering a culture of patient safety and family-centred care. Ensuring business continuity management and emergency planning for the division. Continuing to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across public and private sectors, universities, non-government agencies as well as health at the State and National Level. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in professional clinical leadership and in management of clinical services in a large complex acute health service.
