We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our proactive and innovative team.

Develop and author engineering concepts and deliverables to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.

Working as part of the team responsible for the delivery of the mechanical engineering package, throughout the design phases of the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities: Able to work in a self-motivated fashion to use appropriate knowledge and experience in the creation of engineering documentation / deliverables and / or the development of engineering concepts. Able to produce design reports and documentation to the standard and scope set out by the Mechanical Engineer – Senior in the timeframe defined by the programme. Work effectively, following the project plan for project implementation. Self-motivated and responsive to requirements. Working to Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock's Business Management System and Technical Manual. Work with awareness of Hazards associated with the work undertaken, and by fellow staff, and raising issues to the Principal Engineer – Mechanical as needed. Collaborate with other Engineers to ensure that system delivery of the mechanical engineering packages interface with the other discipline packages to resolve conflicts / clashes. Support other Engineers with the completion of their assigned tasks. Qualifications: A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline. Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartership. Essential Skills: Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements. Design of mechanical and nuclear process / plant systems e.g. fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing etc. Awareness of the Functional Safety implications of process / plant design, and design of safety systems preferred. Awareness of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred). Experience: Experience in producing a wide range of engineering reports. Experience in producing hand calculations to verify design requirements are met. Awareness of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities, or awareness of the design and support of Hydrocarbon/Chemical process/plant systems. Able to produce Process Sequence / P&ID drawings. Able to produce fabrication drawings to recognised standards, i.e. BS8888. Proficiency in Mathcad, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (or equivalent), and MS Office. What do I need before I apply: Hybrid role with occasional site visits; can start on BPSS with SC pending but must be sole British national.
