Job Summary: As Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's mechanical aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities: Plans and conducts independent mechanical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.Develops conceptual designs for mechanical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules.Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.Other responsibilities as designated.Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.Experience in mining and minerals processing plants – and associated equipment types within - is essential.Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods and materials in the mechanical discipline, and of engineering work planning and control methods.Knowledge of precedents in the mechanical discipline and of principles, practices and interfaces with other engineering disciplines.Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Broad knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards (Australia) and design and/or layout criteria.Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.Experience leading teams providing technical aspects and support of supply chain lifecycle for a large number of equipment packages and/or contracts on a single project.Skill in oral and written communication.Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
