Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Draftsperson to support the design team in Bundaberg. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design within the mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry sectors, and will play a key role in supporting product innovation and high-quality designs. This role requires expertise in 2D and 3D CAD solutions, using best practices and a methodical approach. The right candidate will be able to carry a job through the complete product life cycle - from concept to completion - and work effectively both cross-functionally and cross-culturally within a global organization. Key Responsibilities: 2D and 3D CAD Solutions: Apply the "top-down" modelling principle and utilize advanced 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Solidworks) CAD software to prepare concepts, detailed drawings, cut lists and installation drawings to the highest standard. Quality & Compliance: Guide and oversee the design process to ensure that all product designs meet technical specification, quality standards, Australian Standards and are fit for purpose. Product Life Cycle Management: Manage the entire product life cycle, from initial concept and design through to manufacturing, launch, and post-launch support. Ensure efficient product development processes that meet market demands and quality expectations are adhered to. Bill of Materials: Assist in the generation and maintenance of accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs). Processes & Procedures: Adopt, maintain and uphold the processes, procedures and file storage systems at Aletek. Design Optimisation: Collaborate with the design team to optimise designs for manufacturing and performance. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including sales, marketing, and field service, to ensure that engineering efforts align with broader company objectives. Drive innovation, problem-solving and provide after-sales support through departmental collaboration. Cross-Cultural Effectiveness: Navigate and manage engineering operations across diverse cultural contexts, ensuring effective communication, understanding, and collaboration within a global team. Customer Relations: Work with sales, field services and the manufacturing team to address product gaps and implement corrective actions. Travel Expectations: Occasionally attend site to assess, measure and scan equipment. Continuous improvement: Contribute to the improvement of design principles, processes and procedures to evolve and generate better products while optimising the manufacturability for improved throughput. Note: The above list is not exhaustive, and the role may evolve to meet the overall objectives of the company.
Qualifications: Minimum Certificate IV Engineering/Mechanical Drafting (preferred). Design accreditations in 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Solidworks/Inventor) are preferred, but candidates with strong design skills, methodology and design experience will be considered. Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role within the mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry sectors, with a background in fabrication and machining; experience in pattern development would be highly desirable for thermal blankets. Minimum of 3 years' drafting experience with Dassault Solidworks (preferred, but Autodesk Inventor will be considered). Minimum of 3 years' drafting experience with Autodesk AutoCAD. Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite are essential. Fabrication, machining (essential) and pattern development experience (desirable). Solidworks PDM experience (preferred but training will be provided). Experience with 3D laser scanning (preferred but training will be provided). •Mechanically minded with a strong understanding and ability to apply best design practices to deliver exceptional designs.
