The role: Mechanical Commissioning Engineer Location: Devonport Hours: 37 hrs – full time site based role Duration: 12 months + Contract Industry: Nuclear Defence NEED SC CLEARANCE – CAN START WITH BPSS Job Purpose To safely implement and manage allocated commissioning packages of work in line with project requirements, technical and regulatory standards and specifications.
Prepare/Review/Implement Setting to work/SAT documents.
Plan, assess and generate Safe Systems of Work and manage the subsequent implementation of the allocated work scope in accordance with the commissioning strategy and commissioning safety plan.
Key Responsibilities Manage the safe delivery of allocated Mechanical commissioning work packages by working collaboratively with other members of the site team and Customers organisation.
Oversee the implementation of the Mechanical work packages to ensure that work meets the required technical and quality standards.
Provide Mechanical technical input/support for handover and commissioning on pipework, Pump plant room, demin polishing plants and associated equipment.
Supervise contractors onsite activities during handover and commissioning.
Ensure onsite documentation is completed during handover and commissioning.
Manage TQ and defect recording and close out within your scope.
Input into program timescales and update progress against the program.
Plan and assess the technical and engineering requirements of work packages.
Produce Safe Systems of Work (Risk Assessments, Methods Statements etc.) to ensure that supervisors and work teams can be effectively set to work.
Set and uphold standards and expectations in line with Company initiatives.
Manage, control and set to work sub-contractors where applicable.
Ensure work teams and sub-contractors have the right tools and equipment, are trained and competent.
Provide regular reports on progress of work against agreed schedules and key performance indicators.
Monitor all phases of the work to identify any risks to planned activities and/or schedule.
Carry out regular workplace inspections to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Immediately report any unplanned events or incidents to the Commissioning Manager.
Comply with all Company and Customer procedures, site rules and instructions.
Supervise, oversee and mentor Commissioning Engineers where applicable.
Assist the Commissioning Manager in undertaking his duties.
Academic Requirements Vocational Qualification Level 6 / Bachelor's Degree / SVQ Level 4 Membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution.
Or NVQ Level 4 / HNC-HND / SVQ Level 3 augmented with specific experience.
Membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution.
Specific Requirements IOSH Managing Safely Experience Demonstrable experience of undertaking a similar role in a complex, multi discipline and highly regulated environment (preferably Nuclear).
Special Requirements Appointment as a Risk Assessor as per IO-PRD-006.
Travel may be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
