The role is responsible for the leading service delivery of Work Health and Safety and Injury Management throughout Council, using a customer focused approach, considering organisational priorities, and legislative requirements.
As a key member of the People & Culture leadership team, the Manager, Work Health and Safety develops and implements strategies that foster a safe workplace, through innovation, and the practical application of legislation to maintain and improve high organisational performance.
As the most senior Work, Health and Safety practitioner in Council, the Manager is responsible for leading change and driving our safety-first culture.
The Manager, Work Health and Safety is also responsible for Council's injury management and rehabilitation function, including workers compensation claims and reporting requirements.
The role will liaise with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, and collaborate to provide an effective injury management service.
Essential Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety or a related discipline and demonstrated operational and strategic experience at a senior level.
Experience in collaborating with diverse teams and demonstrated superior stakeholder engagement to build the desired health and safety culture and provide a high-level service on a range of complex and sensitive matters.
Experience in the review the improvement of the WHS management system and workers compensation management systems to ensure compliance with insurance framework, legislative requirements and efficiency in operations.
Proven experience in developing a framework to mitigate injury and raise awareness of wellbeing and hazard prevention.
Contributing to the organisation in the design, delivery and implementation of WHS strategies including policies, training and awareness.
Proven knowledge in understanding and translating legislation and regulatory standards including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Workers Compensation Act 1987 (NSW), as well as other information, to proactively identify problems and provide specialist advice.
Proven leadership experience in managing a small professional team to provide a high level of support and deliver on shared objectives.
Experience in psychological safety, health hygiene, and fitness for work programs.
Desirable Local Government related industry experience.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Rehabilitation and Return to Work certification.
