The role We are seeking someone with proven management experience in a towage and/or maritime environment to manage the safe and efficient provision of towage services, to enable efficient movement of shipping throughout our Tasmanian ports. The Manager Towage is accountable for team leadership, performance, and resource management including safety and compliance, profitability, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. This is a permanent, full-time position available statewide. Role Responsibilities Leading and developing an effective Towage team to provide safe, efficient and customer-focused towage services Ensuring all operations are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner and in line with Tas Ports safety management system and all relevant Federal and State regulatory and statutory requirements Effective operational management of personnel and fleet Building effective stakeholder relationships and engagement Supporting the GM Marine with developing improved commercial outcomes for Towage Providing senior leadership to the organisation and contribute to the achievement of the Tas Ports strategic and operational goals Developing and managing against Towage unit operational plans, aligned with Tas Ports strategic and business plans Focus areas for the role in the short to medium term include: Developing an effective Towage culture that embraces the Tas Ports approach including a proactive safety mindset, mutual respect, high levels of personal and team accountability, and a commitment to team productivity, safety, and performance improvement; Enhancing the performance of the unit through maximising productivity opportunities within the current operating environment along with new commercial or project opportunities; Motivate and manage geographically dispersed operational teams in a technical field; Establish a robust capability program that ensures ongoing development of crews, and ensures Marine Orders compliance. Minimum Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline, or relevant marine industry or towage experience; Proven management experience in a towage and/or maritime environment; Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or ability to obtain. What you can bring to the role Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage operational teams, preferably in the towage or marine industries. Proven self-management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple and complex issues, and coordinate work programs. Proven relationship and stakeholder management skills including the ability to achieve commercial outcomes in a timely manner. Proven change management and safety system implementation skills. Experienced at improving efficiency and effectiveness through robust operational systems and direction. Highly developed communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Why work for us?
