The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities.
While major responsibilities are for flood, storm operations and tsunamis, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural), other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats, Urban Search and Rescue and Community First Response.

About the Opportunity An exciting and impactful opportunity has arisen for a Manager – Mental Health Services to join our dynamic Mental Health & Wellbeing Unit. In this pivotal role, you will lead and coordinate a dedicated team that provides vital psychological support services, including Incident Response, the Peer Support and Chaplaincy Program, and other wellbeing initiatives. Your work will be central to fostering a psychologically safe, resilient, and mentally healthy workplace, while reducing the risk of psychological harm and promoting overall employee wellbeing.

About You As an accomplished and forward-thinking leader, you are passionate about driving mental health initiatives across an organisation. You will excel at:
Leading and managing a high-performing team that delivers critical mental health services, including the Peer Support and Chaplaincy Program and Incident Response. Developing and implementing strategic frameworks that enhance psychological safety and wellbeing, with a clear focus on reducing workplace stressors and fostering resilience. Cultivating a collaborative and supportive team culture, where open communication, active listening, and strategic execution are key. Drawing on your experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams to lead with confidence and navigate complex challenges. Presenting with authority and clarity to peers, leadership, and external stakeholders, ensuring the importance of mental health and wellbeing is understood at all levels. As a well-regarded Manager, you will have a passion for working across an organisation to maximise the impact of key workforce and wellbeing programs. Supporting the delivery of positive organisation-wide outcomes, you will have proven and extensive program delivery and stakeholder engagement experience, and ideally exposure to mental health and wellbeing. Track record of supporting and leading key workforce programs, from design and establishment to the delivery and ongoing evaluation of impact. Strong project management capability with proven experience rolling out programs across a comparably complex organisation. High-level stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work cross-functionally throughout the entire organisation, ensuring maximum impact of programs. Strong alignment to the mission of NSW SES and commitment to bettering service provision. How to apply Your application should include:
