About the City of Kalamunda The City of Kalamunda is a local authority with a population of 60,000 located approximately a 35-minute drive from the Perth CBD providing the opportunity to work in a varied planning environment, from rural natural bushland to highly developed residential, commercial and industrial areas.
About this Opportunity An overview of responsibilities include: Overseeing, developing and strengthening the Council's governance systems and frameworks in compliance with the Local Government Act, relevant regulations, and Australian governance standards. Ensuring effective management of Council meetings, robust risk management, and efficient record-keeping practices, contributing to a transparent and accountable Council. Providing strategic governance advice and supporting policy coordination. Assisting the CEO, Council and senior Officers in making informed decisions that align with best practices. Leading and supporting the Governance business unit to establish and maintain an effective governance structure, enhancing organisational capability, performance and compliance with legislative and management requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Business Management, or a related discipline) and/or relevant experience. Certification in governance or legislative compliance (or equivalent) Master's degree in Business, Governance, or Leadership (desirable) Selection Criteria 5-7 years of experience in a governance or legal environment, preferably within local government. Demonstrated experience in implementing governance frameworks, managing compliance, and overseeing Council meeting protocols. Proven experience in leading governance-related projects and achieving strategic outcomes. Proven ability to liaise effectively with Council members, the Executive team, and external stakeholders. Skilled in resource management, budgeting, and strategic planning to support the effective operation of the Governance business unit. Hours of Work This is a full-time 5-year fixed term contract working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight. There may be a requirement to work outside of normal business hours to meet the obligations of attending Council and Community meetings.
About the Benefits The salary range for this position is $155,000 - $165,000 per annum, (depending on skills and experience) plus superannuation.
