About the team The Analysis and Insights Division has an expansive remit that includes topics such as evaluation, industry policy, technology, innovation, competition, productivity, resources and the transition to net-zero. We provide influential analysis, insights and advice, build cutting edge models, develop new data sources and engage across the Australian Public Service, industry, academia and society to support high-quality public policy.

To support the growing need for more rapid, project-based, analytical work in the department, we are creating a new Strategic projects and coordination team. The team will deliver cross-cutting analytical projects, lead a transformation in how the division delivers projects and co-ordinate policy input across the division.
The opportunity We are looking for someone to build and lead our new Strategic projects and coordination team that will collaborate widely to deliver influential, high-quality analysis for the department. You will manage a team that will scope, lead and consult on a mix of rapid and medium-turnaround projects on topics spanning a range of the breadth of the Department's responsibilities, including different industries and sectors.
You'll also drive transformation in the way the division delivers projects by enhancing and building our organisational infrastructure including data sources, models, frameworks, tools and templates.

An ability to apply economic frameworks to analysis on a range of policy topics in a dynamic environment, with a clear understanding of how to deliver value Strong strategic thinking skills and judgement, and an ability to influence outcomes Ability to guide a team to balance and deliver multiple, concurrent projects Well-developed stakeholder management skills, with a strong client focus Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex analytics in a clear and compelling way for a range of audiences An interest in using systems, technology and data to improve advice Experience in developing and building organisational infrastructure Ability to promote a curious, collaborative, connected and caring culture in your team Initiative and a can-do, positive attitude. Qualifications or experience in the following will be highly regarded:
Economics, particularly in the application of economics and other frameworks to policy development Project management, particularly in relation to scoping and delivering client-focused analytical projects in the public or private sector Coordination and government processes (eg Cabinet, legislative). What you will do The key duties of the position include:
Managing a small team to deliver cross-cutting analytical projects that draw input from across the division/department Assessing and triaging project requests, and working with policy areas to scope and deliver selected projects Influential representation of AID and DISR in IDCs, internal working groups and external seminars. Creating efficiencies by standardising work across the division, for example, by building out procedures, templates and guidance Mentoring and developing junior staff, building capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration Co-ordinating divisional input to a range of policy processes, ensuring a comprehensive and cohesive view. Eligibility To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
