Primary Objective: The Library Technician ensures acquisitions, inter-library loans, and library enquiries are processed effectively and efficiently and deputises in the Library Manager's absence.
Context Statement: The position holder is part of a small team that provides library and information services to the Judges of the Supreme Court and Local Court of the Northern Territory and the legal profession.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Undertake acquisition duties, including subscription renewals and processing the Library's invoices for payment.
Answer reference and research enquiries using a range of online databases.
Catalogue library resources using standard library classification systems.
Arrange binding and rebinding of library material, including annual judgments.
Manage the circulation system, including inter-library loans and issuing overdue notices.
Assist with maintaining library collections, databases, and generating statistical reports.
Maintain contemporary knowledge of records management systems to assist the Supreme Court Registry in managing records.
Assist with the provision of training and induction services for Judges, Associates, and lawyers.
Selection Criteria
Essential
A relevant tertiary qualification recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association or equivalent experience relevant to a Law Library.
Working knowledge of legal reference tools, such as Westlaw AU and Lexis Advance.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including Judges and legal practitioners.
Good working knowledge of acquisitions and cataloguing procedures.
Good working knowledge of Libraries Australia and inter-library loan procedures.
Good working knowledge of records management systems and processes.
Good working knowledge of Library Management Systems including contemporary Library IT solutions.
Desirable
Experience in the provision of research and training services.
