These roles require specific qualifications and/or training, including roles where further training must be undertaken from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose, for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction. Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science, and information technology would be typical examples. Responsibilities The position involves responsibility for the coordination and promotion of the school Library to meet the needs of students and staff. The library has an extensive literature collection that supports the active development of literacy and a love of reading; several online digital subscriptions which support student and staff research; a teacher reference library; and audio-visual equipment which is available for short term loan. The school's non-fiction reference library has been re-distributed across classrooms and is managed by the Learning Domains. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintaining a welcoming, well organized and inviting library space for all members of the school community. Promoting reading and literature in the school through the Library including promotions for new releases, popular authors and events such as, but not limited to, Children's Book Week. Supporting teachers to run literature circles, book clubs and other reading programs in the school. Sourcing additional resources to support the development of a love of literature in the school community. Working with individual or small groups of students to borrow fiction titles appropriate to their interests, reading capacity and level of development. Updating the collection by ordering new titles as appropriate to the needs of the students and the staff and removing titles that are no longer relevant or in poor condition. Collecting resources and information to assist teachers in their delivery of the curriculum including provision of additional resources to support the teaching of the class texts in English from Years 7-12. Sourcing materials for teachers who are running lunchtime clubs. Maintaining the general order of the collection and class sets: covering, labelling, shelving etc. Monitoring of library systems to ensure that all services are operating efficiently, including checking in and checking out resources as required by students and staff. Maintaining the school digital subscriptions and promoting the use of these to students and teachers. Developing and implementing appropriate borrowing systems for laptop loans and other audio-visual resources stored in the library. Attend Professional Learning sessions as required. Sorting, arranging, filing and cataloguing incoming/outgoing material. Ordering of other requisites for identified Domain areas. Other tasks as directed by the Principal. Who May Apply Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
EEO AND OHS Commitment Applicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction. Such requests will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to the operational requirements of the school.
