Role Detail The Office of General Counsel (OGC) within King & Wood Malleson's (KWM) aims to provide first-class service with commercial advice. They have an extensive understanding of KWM – how it operates as a business and a law firm. Their goal is to find the balance between complying with our obligations under legislation and creating a valuable experience for our clients and our Partners and staff.
Joining this highly regarded in-house team, reporting to the Head of Legal, this role will be responsible for providing legal advice to the firm and its associated entities in relation to contracts and legal documentation. At the direction of the Head of Legal, this role may also assist with legal matters from time to time.
Based in the Sydney office, with a balanced approach to WFH, key responsibilities include:
Reviewing, negotiating and expertly drafting an extensive range of legal documents, including supplier agreements, IT agreements, sponsorship agreements, memorandums of understanding, confidentiality agreements, leases, disclaimers/legal notices, and other legal documentation. Providing an exceptional standard of legal advice to the firm and its business functions in relation to contracts and legal documentation, ensuring that all contracts and legal documentation comply with applicable laws, OGC guidelines and internal policies. Working closely with the firm's business units to understand their needs and to provide legal support in relation to contract-related matters, including working closely with the firm's procurement function. Arranging execution of contracts and legal documentation, and ensuring that documents are properly recorded on OGC's Material Contracts Register. Assisting the Head of Legal with strategic projects and the firm's significant supplier agreements. Developing internal training in relation to contracts and legal documentation. About You Commercially astute, with an excellence without arrogance ethos, you will add value through your diligence and contract expertise. Solid experience as a legal practitioner advising on contracts. Strong advisory skills, including providing commercially astute advice on contracts. Excellent organisational and proof-reading skills. High level of attention to detail. Ability to work effectively with senior members of the Office of General Counsel and the firm. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work independently with substantial initiative. Strong commitment to client service and well-developed relationship management ability. Experience working within an in-house counsel unit within a law firm or professional services firm will be looked on favourably, as will experience in technology contracts.
