Aurizon is seeking a suitably qualified Legal professional to join our high-performing Legal team as a Legal Counsel

As a Legal professional in the Aurizon legal team, you will work closely with other lawyers and paralegals to deliver commercially driven legal advice with a focus on property, land tenure, leasing, licensing, cultural heritage, native title, real estate and infrastructure projects, State land and freehold related matters and general commercial contracting. The successful candidate will be motivated by and interested in the variety and pace of in-house practice and will have the necessary experience to identify and address potential legal and regulatory issues facing Aurizon.
About the role:
As an Aurizon Legal Counsel, you will:
Provide high quality and commercially focused legal advice to protect the organisation's interests on a day-to-day basis, including advising on: a broad range of legal matters with a particular focus on property, land tenure and infrastructure matters that affect Aurizon and other commercial and operational arrangements which assist in managing Aurizon's legal activities to protect its interests;
commercial contracts and procurement.
Support the development and implementation of improved business efficiencies through continuous improvement, innovation and initiatives in the delivery of the legal function and across the business in areas which legal supports.
Draft, review and negotiate contracts to support all aspects of the organisation's business.
Interact with and manage external legal advisors where necessary.
This is not an exhaustive list of position responsibilities. Specific duties may vary over time and the successful candidate will be supported where necessary to undertake any new tasks.
About you:
Admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland and hold a current practicing certificate.
Ideally a minimum of 4 to 8 years' post admission experience.
The following experience is not essential but highly regarded:
experience at a leading law firm in private practice;
relevant in-house experience in a large corporate environment (whether through short term secondments or previous in-house positions); and
experience in undertaking property related work across different jurisdictions in Australia;
a sound background advising on infrastructure assets (including ports and rail) and exposure to the transportation, mining or commodities industries.
Have a 'can do' attitude and willing to practice in a wide range of practice areas as required, including but not limited to procurement, construction, safety, competition law, disputes and litigation.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, influencing, presentation, negotiating and relationship building skills.
Demonstrated ability to autonomously manage matters from start to finish, high commercial acumen and experience working to deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
