Location ProfileLocated in the Western Metropolitan suburb of Melton Victoria, Kurunjang Secondary College is a stand-alone Years 7 to 12 college with a current population of over 900 students.
The school is in the second year of its Strategic Plan period. The college community is committed to a shared vision of Learn, Grow, Achieve Together. The focus is on enhancing student outcomes, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy. In addition, our plan is to improve results in our VCE student outcomes and increase the participation of students into tertiary, particularly university, education.
Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to model exemplary teaching practice, including the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum, and implement school priorities.
SC2 Demonstrated expertise in the implementation and modelling of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.

RoleLearning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning.
ResponsibilitiesLearning Specialist – English and Literacy Leader Overview: The Learning Specialist – English and Literacy Leader will work in collaboration with the College Principal Team, providing direction, guidance, and support to achieve high standards of literacy and English instruction across all learning areas. This role encompasses leading the Kurunjang Literacy Program with a Science of Reading approach and ensuring that whole-school literacy is embedded across the curriculum.
Primary Responsibilities: Leadership and Vision Lead the development and implementation of a Whole School Literacy Action Plan aligned with the Science of Reading, the Kurunjang Literacy Program (KLP), and the college's Strategic and Annual Implementation Plans.
Work collaboratively with the Executive and Educational Leaders to cultivate a vision for literacy across the college that includes a commitment to evidence-based literacy practices.
Serve as a key liaison for literacy initiatives within the College Council, teaching staff, and wider community to foster a cohesive approach to literacy that promotes high standards and inclusion.
Curriculum Integration and Support Lead and model effective literacy instruction in all curriculum areas, facilitating training and coaching to enhance teachers' expertise in integrating literacy skills across disciplines.
Utilise Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to foster collaborative planning and data analysis among teachers to support literacy goals in all learning areas.
Data Analysis and Reporting Collect, analyse, and evaluate literacy data (e.g., NAPLAN, TORC, PAT-R) to inform interventions, track progress, and provide targeted support.
Guide staff in interpreting literacy data and using it to differentiate instruction, align with departmental standards, and evaluate the impact on student outcomes.
Professional Development and Mentorship Lead professional learning programs to upskill staff in high-impact literacy teaching strategies that align with the Science of Reading.
Coach staff in the application of the College Instructional Model, focusing on high-impact teaching strategies that support differentiated, inclusive literacy instruction.
Mentor early-career teachers and support professional growth through observation, feedback, and team teaching.
Community Engagement and Advocacy Promote the importance of literacy within the college and the broader community, engaging with parents, students, and stakeholders.
Represent the college at literacy-focused events and liaise with literacy consultants to bring best practices and innovative strategies into the college.
