Role Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range.
The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school.
A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Responsibilities Leading Teachers at Staughton College are members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) whose role is to develop, implement and review the school strategic plan and subsequent Annual Implementation Plans whilst leading and being part of highly effective teams.
A key role for all leadership members is in instructional leadership where individuals and the team proactively work to support all teachers to continually improve their individual and collective practice.
Key Responsibilities: Leading Wellbeing: Lead the implementation of wellbeing and engagement strategies, programs and policies at a whole school level. Lead the Wellbeing Team in identifying and supporting students at risk, including those with complex wellbeing cases, including all students in out of home care (OOHC) and the youth justice (YJ) system. Maintain strong stakeholder management of relevant Victorian Department of Education and Training and Allied Health staff. Develop and implement comprehensive wellbeing programs that address the diverse needs of students. Oversee the delivery of programs that promote mental health, resilience, and positive behaviour. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement. Monitor student wellbeing and attendance data to inform decision-making and program development. Leading School Operations: Develop and coordinate processes for planning and managing college events and daily operations across the College by working with the Daily Organiser, Student Services and Operations Principal to ensure high quality educational outcomes, efficient use of resources and compliance with DET guidelines and policy. Report to the College Executive Team on forward planning, staff allotments, and timetabling related to wellbeing initiatives. Oversee the Wellbeing and Operational budget, ensuring resources are effectively allocated. Leading Staff: Provide professional development and support to staff in the areas of student wellbeing and community engagement. Mentor and coach staff to enhance their capacity to support student wellbeing and manage challenging behaviours. Lead the induction of new staff, focusing on the school's wellbeing policies and community values. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
