We are seeking an organised and proactive Laboratory Technician to support our Science Department in delivering high-quality, engaging science education. The successful candidate will work closely with science teachers and students to ensure all practical activities run smoothly.
This is a category B Level 2 position under the Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2022.
Responsibilities: Assist in the setting up of laboratories in STEM buildingEnsure all actions (preparation of chemicals, experiments etc), including safety procedures, are performed in accordance with hazardous chemical regulations, other relevant regulations and the information outlined in the MSDS and Risk AssessmentPrepare the materials, stock and standard solutions, specimens and apparatus as required by the Science staffAssist in the setting up of, and testing of, demonstrations/experiments ensuring they function successfullyAssist subject teachers and LSOs with in class support for students with special learning needs when completing practical activitiesEnsure correct and safe disposal of biological and chemical residues and waste in accordance with regulations reporting issues when they ariseAdminister first aid treatment for minor laboratory injuriesObtain and keep up to date relevant MSDS, Hazardous Substances Register and Risk AssessmentsOperate laboratory documentation systems - inventories, the hazardous substances register and risk assessmentsDevelop and maintain the safety manual in consultation with the Learning LeaderProvide support in science subjects/electives for the equivalent of six fifty-minute periods per week. Scheduling will be negotiated with the Science Leaders and the subject teachers of these subjects/electivesPreparing materials for scheduled classes.Requirements: Relevant qualifications and experience in laboratory duties, with a strong understanding of safe work practices, ideally within an educational setting.A current National Criminal Records CheckA current Working with Children Check CardBeing familiar with the use of 3D printers would be extremely beneficialEffective planning and organisational skillsPossess a high level of literacy, numeracy and information technology skillsHighly developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with people at all levels and from varying backgroundsAbility to work independently as well as within a team environmentAbility to manage multiple deadline and competing demandsPresents appropriately, following dress codeKeeps privileged information to which this position is privy confidential and shows commitment to the value and ethos of Catholic educationGenerosity of spirit, optimism and enthusiasmRespond to own training/development needsThe successful applicant will be subject to a Working with Children Check and a National Police Record Check.
