The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g., therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities Responsibilities PRACTICAL SCIENCE
Setting up equipment and instrumentation for use in demonstrations and classes Clearing away equipment and materials after use and checking that they are maintained in a safe, clean and ready to use condition Checking and maintaining equipment in working order and effect repairs where possible Preparation of materials for dissections Prepare chemicals and other laboratory solutions Ensure the supply/availability of consumable products and chemicals Assisting teachers, as required, in conducting Science classes Correct disposal of waste chemicals/products Develop and maintain a register of consumables and assets for stocktake Maintain year level folders of annotated practicals relevant to topics under the Victorian Curriculum and eventually VCE SCIENCE DANGEROUS GOODS & HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE REGULATORY OBLIGATIONS
Maintain records of maximum chemical stock in hand Ensure that an MSDS is on file for every chemical stocked Access current MSDS via the Chemwatch system Write all required Science practical Risk Assessments for all experiments that contain dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances Manage the Science Risk Assessment system Science teachers are to sign and return all relevant risk assessments FINANCE
Manage the Science budget on behalf of the Science coordinator Develop and maintain an ongoing spreadsheet on expenditure OHS
Undertake on behalf of the Principal the duties associated with OHS management within the college Relevant qualifications e.g., Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or Diploma of Laboratory Technology. The first stage will be completed for the school opening at the beginning of the 2025 year. We expect 180 - 200 students to begin in year 7 in 2025 and a similar number in each new year level with an expected enrolment of 1600 in 2030 when Year 12 students begin.
The school is approximately 50 kilometres from Melbourne based in an area of rapidly growing new housing estates incorporating green spaces. Our school grounds are close to planned parklands and sporting facilities, and we are surrounded by a supportive community. Most students who will attend our school live locally and will tend to be dropped off by parents, walk or ride their bike to school.
Our school will be culturally diverse with 60% of students speaking a language other than English at home, the most common languages being Punjabi and Sinhalese.
