The Role: As part of a team delivering high quality pathology services in accordance with Agency policies, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Medical Scientist in Charge – Biochemistry will provide a high level of support to the Director of Pathology and the Laboratory Manager in provision of:
• Leadership and direction in the strategic development and management of the Biochemistry Laboratory.
• Effective management of specified human and physical resources for a team of scientists and technicians delivering a pathology service.
• Day-to-day management of the section, including scientific and technical activity, staff and equipment resources, and solve the more complex technical and scientific problems as they arise during the routine operation of the section.
• Expert advice to the Department Management Group on matters of staff performance and operational objectives to facilitate Department objectives.

Participation in an out of hours on call roster if required.

Details of Appointment
Permanent, full time, day work position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing from 21 November 2022
*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:$111,672 - $118,949 per annum + 10.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Please note that access to salaries beyond $115,819 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
Satisfactory completion of an appropriate allied health professional course of study at a recognised tertiary institution and registered with the relevant Board or, in the case of self-regulated professions, eligible for membership of the relevant professional association.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
Five years’ experience in a routine biochemistry laboratory or equivalent
Relevant post graduate qualification e.g., PhD, FAACB, FAIMS, MAACB or MSc.
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
Conviction checks in the following areas:
crimes of violence
sex related offences
serious drug offences
crimes involving dishonesty

Identification check
Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
