About our team
Immigration Character Cancellation & Case Res Resettlement & Support Programs Visa Case Management
Case Managers will focus on supporting client reintegration into the community and connecting individuals with appropriate resources and supports.
They will support visa holders adjust to community living through active engagement and positive interactions.
Case Managers will use a range of case management and risk assessment tools to support engagement and case management and will work actively with community providers to assist clients in accessing accommodation, employment, healthcare, community welfare assistance, and rehabilitation services.
Case Managers will be the Department's connection to the visa holder and will develop professional relationships with the person. Clients, including vulnerable individuals with complex issues, will receive the appropriate degree of individualised support.
Case Managers will engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to monitor, coordinate, and manage holistic support and overcome barriers to successful community reintegration and achievement of a status resolution outcome.
Our ideal candidate
APS5 Case Managers will case manage visa holders requiring a low to medium level of service, undertake case coordination functions, operate under limited direction, and address and resolve potential issues impacting a client's reintegration into the community and achieving status resolution outcomes.
Case Managers are the key point of contact with the Department and will engage regularly and proactively in-person and via video conferencing and telephone with their allocated client caseload to support positive community reintegration.
They are required to work directly with clients, building productive relationships, while assessing community safety risks posed by the individual and escalating cases as necessary.
Duties and responsibilities
Applying evidence-based case management practices, including risk assessment tools, ensuring effective and current assessment and planning, and identifying intervention supports to reduce risk.
Motivating and influencing visa holders through the case management process, including modelling pro-social behaviours and drawing on strengths-based approaches.
Monitoring client visa conditions compliance and demonstrating assertiveness and confidence in dealing with clients exhibiting challenging behaviours.
Engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders regarding client reintegration needs and supports and status resolution outcomes and conducting case conferences with stakeholders regarding sensitive and complex cases where appropriate.
Assessing the level of service required to achieve status resolution outcomes, including identifying client needs (e.g. health / welfare vulnerabilities) and referring the client to suitable community-based support to overcome the barriers, as appropriate.

Case Managers will have or are able to demonstrate :
Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy to support case management efforts and resolve highly complex status resolution outcomes.
Ability to work quickly, manage competing priorities effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to conduct complex case assessments to determine a client's immigration status and determining the scope of case law assessments.
Analytical and research skills, and experience in compiling complex recommendations.
Well-developed interpersonal, stakeholder management, liaison, and negotiation skills.
Displays integrity and a high ethical standard, is self-aware and accountable for own actions.
Ability to synthesise complex information and problem solve with sound judgement.
Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with cultural awareness and acumen.
Ability to provide support and guidance to team members in a constantly changing, complex and politically sensitive environment.
Experience in client contact and the ability to manage their time and appointment schedules effectively to ensure all clients receive quality services.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position, you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

The Department of Home Affairs offers an attractive remuneration package, including salary, superannuation benefits, and flexible working conditions appropriate to the level of the position.
The Department may provide relocation assistance to eligible APS employees required to relocate. The level of assistance will vary depending on the reason for relocating and your personal circumstances.
