About the roleThiess is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in our Head Office, located in South Bank, Brisbane. Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety for Australia East, you will play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive health and safety plans, developing safety protocols, and coaching staff across our sites, all in line with our Health and Safety Governance System. This exciting role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with our current and future sites and collaborate closely with our stakeholders. The successful candidate will embrace the chance to travel to various sites, supporting key projects and customer requirements, and make a significant impact on the future of safety in the industry.Additionally, you will:Provide guidance to regional Safety Coordinators to include Health and Safety Competencies.Carry out coaching and mentoring of Health and Safety Officers.Review current and emerging safety practices of delivery and assessment processes across Thiess and make recommendations for improvement where needed.Assist with internal projects in learning and development needs in line with Health and Safety Operations and Maintenance Training requirements.Collaborate with OEMs and internal stakeholders to develop training material and assessments in accordance with the Health and Safety Governance System and Safety Systems.Actively participate in curriculum review and design.Review safety material, track and implement improvements.Optimise performance of Health and Safety within the business.About youYou will maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with organisational goals. Maintaining a proactive approach and a commitment to continuous improvement, you will contribute significantly to the overall success of Thiess operations, enhancing efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.Additionally, you have:Degree-level education in Health & Safety or a related field is desirable.Minimum of 5 years in Health & Safety roles, specifically in developing and implementing AS 45001 management systems, preferably in mining or heavy industries.Experience as a lead facilitator for risk assessments in large mines or complex heavy industries, along with leading workplace safety cultural interventions.Proven experience in client health & safety management negotiations, including project scoping, mobilization, and incident/action management.Proficient in developing ISO 45001-based management systems, conducting system audits, and familiar with reporting systems; understanding of SharePoint & Power BI is a plus.Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and report writing skills are essential.Please note that this role will be a full-time permanent position and applications for this role will close on Wednesday 14 August 2024.What Thiess can do for youHelp to build on your career, offering diverse opportunities to expand your skill set.Flexible working arrangements.Recently renovated corporate head office located in South Bank, Brisbane.Health & wellbeing programs.On-site gymnasium.A range of corporate discounts, including health insurance (Medibank), travel & retail products.
