Details of the offer

Basketball NSW is the governing body of basketball in the State of NSW.

As a sport, we are aiming to achieve 100,000 + registered members by 2025. We are also aiming to expand the number of teams participating in representative basketball, which means we need to increase the number of technical officials we have to service our game.

The Head of Technical Officials role will oversee the delivery of the Basketball NSW Officials Strategic Plan (this includes referees, scoretable officials and statisticians), managing our network of instructors and raising the standard of Officials education across the State.

The Head of Technical Officials will also be responsible for managing our Spalding Waratah League Officials Program Managers and will hold an ex-officio position of the NSW Referee Advisory Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To deliver the Basketball NSW Officials Strategic Plan*

To manage Spalding Waratah League Officials Program Managers.

To establish and manage a network of Officials instructors throughout the State.

To oversee and manage the Junior Development Program (JDP), Referee Instructor Development Program (RIDP) and Advanced Referee Program (ARP).

To administer and maintain education records for all officials.

To provide advice and recommendations on the appointment of officials to the Australian Junior Championships.

To perform talent identification activities by attending various leagues, tournaments and tours as required.

To assist with the coordination of other activities as directed.

To represent Basketball NSW at meetings as directed.

* The Basketball NSW Strategic Plan will be launched at the 2021 Basketball NSW State Conference in November 2021. Basketball NSW is currently in the last phase of conducting community research, and these findings will assist in building our sports strategic plan.

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN OTHER BASKETBALL ACTIVITIES?

If yes, that’s great, and we encourage our staff to be actively involved in the game in other capacities, such as coaching, being a team manager, refereeing right through, to just being a fan.

We get it, and we understand it, as basketball runs through the veins of a lot of our staff members.

The successful applicant can continue to undertake these activities in their own time, but this must be disclosed when applying for the role and must not present conflicts of interest in this role.

When you become a part of the basketball family, many networking opportunities present themselves, and an opportunity may present itself to you that you would like to pursue. However, before accepting any such position(s), you will need to gain approval from Basketball NSW first. You may be required to demonstrate that the position(s) will not in any way interfere with your employment and will in no way create a conflict of interest between the external position and your role at Basketball NSW.

If permission to undertake the requested appointment is granted and will require leave, the only form of leave from duties that will be made available to undertake is either annual leave or leave without pay.

OTHER

Overtime is not paid in this position; pre-approved, rostered time off in lieu of overtime is offered.

Additional incentive plans may be available for these roles based on quantifiable deliverables for our programs. These will be discussed on successful completion of the probationary period.

Basketball NSW will accept applications from other States/Territories within Australia.
