The role: As the Head of Payroll, you will use your knowledge & experience to bring this Payroll team and overall function to its optimal efficiency. The Head of Payroll also leads the payroll team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth while ensuring alignment with all strategic objectives.
Key requirements include:
Leadership and Team Development Provide strong leadership, guidance, and direction to the payroll team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.
Set clear targets and goals for team members, providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
Conduct performance appraisals and develop succession planning strategies.
Champion diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance within the team.
Operational Excellence Oversee the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all employee payments.
Conduct regular audits and checks to ensure legislative and award compliance.
Manage third-party payments, including superannuation and other statutory obligations.
Lead month-end payroll processes, ensuring accurate journals, reconciliations, and reports are provided to Finance.
Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risks.
Governance and Compliance Ensure compliance with all Australian payroll legislation, industrial instruments, and internal policies.
Maintain and update procedural documentation, including payroll process guides and standard operating procedures.
Safeguard payroll systems, data, and employee information, ensuring confidentiality and security.
Strategic Partnership and Advisory Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including P&C, Finance, and business leaders.
Provide expert advice on payroll matters, including enterprise agreements (EAs), legislative changes, and system implementations.
Actively participate in EA discussions, analyzing impacts on payroll systems and processes.
Collaborate on large-scale business projects such as acquisitions, divestments, and restructuring initiatives.
Systems and Technology Management Oversee payroll systems, including Chris21 and other related platforms, ensuring optimal functionality and user access.
Lead system upgrades, migrations, or new implementations in collaboration with IT and external vendors.
The candidate: We are looking for a seasoned Payroll Manager with the following skills and experience:
Minimum 10 years in payroll operations within a complex, high-volume environment.
Demonstrated success in leading a large payroll team within an enterprise agreement (EBA) and wages-driven setting.
Proven ability to streamline processes and lead change management initiatives.
Expertise in Chris21 or IChris is ESSENTIAL.
Experience in benefits administration, workers' compensation, and employment law.
This is an excellent opportunity to make your mark and add real value across the entire payroll function. A salary of circa $200k - $220k package is on offer to the successful candidate, along with onsite parking. The company works on a 4/1 hybrid split (office/home).
