Join the Brisbane Lions in a newly created position of Head of Legal and Risk. This newly created role will see the Head of Legal and Risk providing legal and contract advisory services, managing risk and insurance, overseeing governance and compliance, and supporting crisis and incident management for the Club.
Reporting to the COO, we are seeking a qualified Legal Practitioner with proven experience in legal and exposure to risk management best practice.
The ideal candidate will collaborate across all departments of our Club, delivering clear, practical advice that is easy to understand and implement in real-world scenarios.
Key ResponsibilitiesDelivering prompt, expert advice to all Club departments and personnel on potential legal and risk-related matters, ensuring proactive guidance and informed decision-making.
Examples include:Draft and advise on all Sponsorship AgreementsDraft, review and approve all Membership, Corporate Hospitality, Advertising, Merchandise and any Trade Promotions terms and conditions.Draft and advise on all Club contractual arrangements including Stadium User Agreements, Venue Hire Agreements, facility agreements, and AFL shared services agreements.Designing and overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive and practical Risk Management Framework for the Club and its affiliated businesses.Manage and deliver the Club's insurance program, including identifying gaps in insurance coverage as new risks emerge.Manage the Club's Crisis Management Plan and ensure relevant persons, including key Board personnel and Executive, are periodically trained on Crisis Management.Act as a key point of contact concerning Club data protection matters with all internal Departments as well as external stakeholders.Develop, manage and advise on policies and procedures, ensuring that the club operates in a legally sound and ethically responsible manner.Preferred Candidate QualificationsBachelor of Laws or similar qualificationAdmitted as a Legal Practitioner and relevant practising certificateMinimum eight years' experience working in a related legal and/or risk management roleExperience in legal compliance and data protectionHighly developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skillsCandidates with previous experience in corporate law, privacy law, media law, construction law, corporate governance, and employment law will be favourably considered.
Understanding of AFL and its environment is highly regarded, but not essential!
