Head Mechanist

The Walt Disney Company is searching for an enthusiastic and experienced Performing Arts Technician to join the Disney Theatrical Group Australia as Head Mechanist.
The Head Mechanist reports to the Technical Director and is a key member of the management department, overseeing a team of Performing Arts Technicians to ensure a productive and enjoyable working environment for the entire touring production.
This role will require interstate and international travel, as well as evening and weekend work.
Experience and Skills Required:Minimum of two years' experience as a Performing Arts Technician or Mechanist in the Performing Arts sector.Oversee a team of performing arts technicians who manage the mechanical components of our touring musicals.Strong understanding of stage mechanics, rigging, and set construction techniques.Experience in the setup and load out of a physical production.Experience in coordinating technical aspects of a play including documentation, maintenance, rehearsals, and performances.Programming and executing cues during live performances.Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively in high-pressure environments.Precision in following technical and artistic instructions to ensure production quality.Strong teamwork skills to work effectively with directors, designers, performers, and other technical staff.Ability to meet tight deadlines for setup, rehearsals, and performances.Knowledge of safety protocols for working with heavy equipment, electricity, and heights.Experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings, plots, and manuals.Proficiency in industry-standard software for lighting, sound, and video projection.Ability to handle the physical demands of lifting, climbing, and working long hours.Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with production teams and documenting procedures.Previous experience in a similar role in live theatre, preferably in musical theatre productions.Relevant certifications such as Working at Heights, First Aid, or Electrical Test and Tag are advantageous.Candidates must be available to commence in the role in Melbourne no later than Monday 3rd March, 2025, and be prepared to tour domestically and internationally long-term.
