The Energy Data Centre provides a comprehensive information discovery resource focused on making energy research data, projects, and publications available to the community. It supports research outputs to be accessible and reusable thus supporting Open Science and reproducibility aims.
The centre is part of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) project that brings UK researchers together to work on Whole Systems Energy. The small and friendly EDC team develop and maintain both the in-house system and the content within it.
We are looking forward to offering an opportunity for someone interested in energy research and research data management, preservation, and Open Science to come and join us. We will provide hands-on experience in a national information discovery service, utilising a wide range of skills from data description and use of ontologies through to software development.
The Energy Data Centre is based within the Technology Department's Energy Research Unit (ERU). ERU has a long history in energy research and runs a test site with a wind turbine and green ammonia plant. STFC Technology provides technology, engineering, and support of both STFC's facilities and programmes and the wider research programme.

About the role
With full support from the team, responsibilities will include:

Responsible for the content within the Energy Data Centre by:

Managing the research data ingest process: ensuring the data provided is well described and reusable and supporting researchers to meet the standards for the Energy Data Centre
Routinely adding new content and adding subject information
Undertaking one-off projects to ensure the quality of metadata held in the system is good and self-consistent
Reviewing and updating internal metadata standards and policy as required

Reviewing and updating the EDC guidance on research data and emerging FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) standards.
Research Data Management Planning Support: running the process to ensure all UKERC projects have data management plans and ensuring they are updated, recording the status for KPI reporting and maintaining good working relationships with the UKERC academics we support.
Working together with the team undertaking a technical refresh of the infrastructure.

Depending on the skills and potential of the successful candidate, there may be opportunities to contribute to software development activities.

Essential:

Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
Have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of starting employment
Good communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships with a range of colleagues at different levels of seniority
Familiarity with computer applications such as word processors and spreadsheets
Effective management of digital objects, either in a personal or educational setting, e.g., project data, documents, or photographs
Interest or experience in Software development

Desirable:

Interest in Energy Research
Interest in research data management and/or Open Science
