Overview:
We are seeking a casual Government Relations and Public Policy Assistant/Intern position to start in February 2025.Casual HEW 3 + 11.5% superannuation.Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, and hybrid ways of working.About You The Government Relations and Public Policy Assistant is a talented and versatile generalist supporting the Policy, Strategy & Impact Portfolio Capability Team's Government Relations function in the development of government and public policy related briefing, reports for executive-level forums, project support for government partnerships while also supporting the preparation, research and analyses for relevant public policy and insights papers.
This position is designed to provide relevant work experience and possible pathways for RMIT students or recent graduates aspiring to a career in public policy and government related work and/or communications.
Key Accountabilities With guidance, develop, contribute and provide support in producing concise and well written briefing papers, executive reports, public communications materials and public policy papers.Conduct background research and provide summary briefs on specific topic areas with relevance to a diverse range of public policy issues and government relations priorities.Assist and support the administration, communication and coordination of government partnership projects.Monitor and assist with tracking Government Relations related tasks, including government announcements and budgets.Assist the Capability Team with general communications and administration tasks, as required and under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Government Relations.Provide support for government visits by liaising with external and internal stakeholders, producing run sheets, presentations or briefs.Key Selection Criteria A keen interest and working knowledge of government relations, public policy and/or public communications. Excellent and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and an understanding of writing principles that align with the preparation of briefs, concise summaries, meeting notes and background research. An eye for detail and the ability to provide basic synthesis and analysis of diverse public policy areas and government relations priorities. High-level digital literacy and experience using Microsoft O365 suite, including Microsoft Teams. Proven commitment to collaboration, versatility, flexibility and teamwork; with a positive mindset.
Qualifications
RMIT student in the process of obtaining relevant qualifications, or recently completed, in communications, social sciences, economics or law.

About the College The Policy, Strategy and Impact (PSI) Portfolio provides focus and momentum for the projects and priorities that were identified in Knowledge with Action: RMIT's Strategic Plan, developed in 2022.
PSI works to support and advance the implementation of RMIT's strategic priorities, including through strategy projects, Indigenous engagement, innovative partnerships, public policy & government relations and capability development.
PSI includes diverse teams such as the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the Ngarara Willim Centre, the Australian APEC Study Centre, Workforce Innovation and Development Institute, the Health Transformation Lab and the Centre for Innovative Justice.
