Exciting Role - Permanent, Full-time, Brisbane CBD | Provide 24/7 medicolegal services for the state of Queensland.
Medical staff provide informed, impartial, and high-quality forensic services to the Queensland Police Service, Coroner's Court of Queensland, and Office of the Department of Public Prosecutions and the Justice system.
Forensic Physicians provide authoritative, professional advice and assistance to Government agencies on medical and medico-legal matters.
The role
The role requires the provision of high-quality clinical forensic medical services to key stakeholders, including the Queensland Police Service, Coroner's Court of Queensland, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering timely and efficient support in areas such as injury interpretation, clinical toxicology, traffic and custodial medicine, and coronial investigations.
Maintaining expertise to serve as an Expert Witness in criminal matters is essential, along with the ability to examine and collect DNA evidence from victims and alleged perpetrators in criminal cases.
Additionally, the role involves offering professional advice on natural causes deaths to the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service.
This position also supports state-wide education initiatives, providing 24/7 assistance to clinicians performing forensic examinations for adult and older adolescent sexual assault cases.
The individual will be expected to uphold contemporary, best-practice clinical, forensic, and medicolegal skills, while adhering to health and safety policies.
Participation in teaching and research activities, as well as the delivery of training programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, is a key component of this role.
Effective communication and collaboration with clients, stakeholders, and team members are fundamental to ensuring the provision of safe, high-quality services.
The successful person
To succeed in this role, you should have demonstrated experience in providing clinical or medical services at a high level of responsibility.
Additionally, you must be registered with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner.
A medical degree with at least seven years of clinical experience is preferred for entry into this position.
A commitment to pursuing Fellowship with the Australasian College of Legal Medicine is also expected.
Alternative qualifications such as FACRRM or FRACGP, along with eligibility for appropriate credentialing, may be considered for appointment at a lower practice level.
