About this opportunity: Join Mackay Regional Council as a Financial Accounting Specialist, where you will play a pivotal role in providing expert financial advice and leading financial accounting function and annual statutory reporting process. Working closely with the Financial Accounting Coordinator, you'll be responsible developing and maintaining effective financial management systems, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Accounting Standards and providing leadership and support to the Financial Accounting team.
In this role, you'll also coordinate the preparation of financial statements, manage internal controls, and provide high-level financial advice across the organisation. Your expertise will contribute to business improvement, accurate monthly financial reporting, and successful annual audits. Additionally, you'll oversee the Council's taxation and statutory obligations, ensuring we meet our financial commitments with precision.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with a deep understanding of financial and business processes, who is ready to tackle complex financial investigations and provide key leadership to Financial Accounting team.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills: Possession of tertiary qualifications in business, finance, commerce, or accounting, or an equivalent qualification that enables eligibility for membership with the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants or the Chartered Accountants Association. Extensive hands-on experience in accounting, project management, or financial management. Proficiency in advanced computer applications, including the use of corporate systems and Microsoft Office products. In-depth knowledge and practical application of accounting standards and legislation, with strong interpretative abilities. Excellent team management skills, with the capability to lead and inspire staff to achieve set performance targets, meet deadlines, and align with corporate objectives.
