See yourself in our team The Service Management Modernisation Program (SMM) is a pivotal transformation to achieve the target state DevSecOps vision. In simple terms, we aim to optimise some highly manual and administrative operational work, to simplify the life of service owners and engineers who build and run these services. This role will support directly this highly visible and in-demand roadmap of modernisation and automations.
The backlog of work is wide and can range from simplifying a process, eliminating some hands-off or attestations, to completely automating the way we run our compliance around technology controls. The technologies will be around Data and analytics, UI and dashboards, automations and system integrations.
This newly formed squad will be embedded in SRE engineering and start working together with a new Product Manager who can balance effort and complexity across a list of improvements. You will be involved with engineers in Business units to creatively solve their problems and pain points.

You'll manage a medium sized team of Engineers (Perm and contractors) ensuring optimal goal setting, performance, career development and engagement. Advocate the embedding of a positive engineering culture, ensuring adherence to standards and technical quality, and guide complex technical problem solving.

You've enabled skills uplift to DevOps and modern practices like SRE and driven the adoption of these principles and practices across the Group or similar organisation.Supported your team, allocating time for code review, refactoring and tech debt elimination over feature delivery.Taken time to understand unique skill sets of team members, providing personalised feedback and guidance.Provided effective coaching to Engineers and established mechanisms for peer to peer learning and mentoring. Attracted, developed and motivated engineering talent.Facilitated proactive dialogue with senior management and key stakeholders to remove blockers and ensure a clear path to execution.Leveraged an excellent level of technical domain knowledge relevant to Chapter Area (e.g. Software Engineering). Empowered teams to manage their work appropriately, responded to queries, addressed impediments and solved technical issues.Adhered to the Code of Conduct, setting standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people. We're interested in hearing from people who: Come from a software development background, with the willingness to jump into the deep end of technical problems and dive into the code.Show the ability to review code and improve quality in multiple programming languages and on unfamiliar code bases.Confident in their knowledge of system and application performance testing, programming and the ability to monitor, measure and optimise performance and network communication. We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We do not expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these, or a willingness to learn these skillsets (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team!
Software engineering, expert in at least one Programming language (e.g., Golang, Python).Strong experience with modern software development practices using tools such as git for source control, and CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy or similar; Strong public cloud experience in AWS, GCP or Azure.Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Linux internals, networking, containers, and troubleshooting; Scripting and Automation - python/java/ruby or similar.Hands-on experience with automating cloud native technologies, deploying applications, and provisioning infrastructure via code.Experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, logging and monitoring.Demonstrated track record of uplifting culture and engagement of technology teams; Developing technical, interpersonal and leadership skills of the Engineering teams in a structured way.Providing mentoring to Engineers.Strong presentation, verbal communication, and written communications skills and contributing to thought leadership on Engineering best practice within team and across the CBA Group.
