The Position
An exceptional Critical Care Rotation position designed for Emergency trainees to enhance their skills across multiple disciplines.
This rotation provides diverse clinical, procedural, and leadership opportunities through the following placements:
6 Months in Anaesthetics - Gain hands-on experience in critical care, focusing on airway management and procedural skills in an ACEM-accredited Anaesthetics-Critical Care term. Work within three operating theatres and a 4-bed HDU.6 Months in Emergency - FACEM-led Emergency Department.Optional 6 Months in Retrieval Medicine - Subject to prerequisites and credentialing, this additional placement offers hands-on experience in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine, further diversifying your training and skill set.The Location
A coastal city located in Queensland, known for its beautiful harbour, tropical climate, and welcoming community. The area offers a fantastic work-life balance, with access to outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and exploring nearby islands. A family-friendly atmosphere and affordable housing make it an ideal location for both individuals and families.
The Facility
The facility is a 79-bed regional hospital with approximately 282 full-time equivalent staff delivering services across acute, community, and primary care. Handling approximately 36,500 annual presentations, including 25% paediatric cases. This dynamic facility provides an outstanding training ground for developing critical care skills in a supportive, regional setting.
Key features include:
Comprehensive Services: Emergency, general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, maternity, gynaecology, coronary care, palliative care, neonatal nursery, pathology, and paediatrics.Surgical Capacity: Around 1,600 surgical cases annually in three operating theatres.Advanced Care Units: A 36-bed mixed General Surgical and Medical Ward and a 4-bed High Dependency Unit for close observation and retrieval preparation.The Requirements MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at Level 3 supervision.ACEM advanced trainee will be preferred.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.How to Apply
