Electronics Manufacturing Engineer (M/F/D)

Elexon Electronics

Details of the offer

A very cool Electronics Manufacturing Engineer role in sunny Australia

Yes: you read correctly, this role is in Australia. You’ll probably be wondering why a role in Australia is being advertised in Germany – we’ll explain that at the end of the ad.
Let me introduce ourselves. We’reElexon Electronics, part of the Elexon group of companies. We develop and manufacture high-tech electronic products. We’re based in Australia. Our technology ends up in every continent, except Antarctica. Our manufacturing capability is world-class, but our people are even better. We have a team of engineers who develop products that seemed impossible, but we did it anyway. We are busy bringing our capabilities to a new level, and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for an electronics-manufacturing engineer.

You’ll work with our manufacturing team to bump us up a level or two in productivity and quality. There’s a lot to this role, such as:
Controlling product quality by controlling the manufacturing process - if the process isn’t right, we’d be pretty naïve to expect the product end up right;
Improving product design for manufacture - often the best way to achieve quality is to improve the design itself; you’ll work directly with the engineers who design these products to teach them how to make the production team’s life more pleasant;
Reducing cost - if we don’t keep reducing cost, things will eventually become pretty quiet around here;
Improving operational efficiency – pretty much as per the item above; and
Improving delivery performance – for some reason, customers tend to like getting their products when they expected.

One of things that makes us enjoy coming to work is transitioning new products into production – which happens quite regularly. You’ll be the champion of that process.
At this point (if you’re still reading), you’ll probably be wondering what skills and experience you need for this role. Before we get to them, we admit that the combo we need is rare…
For this role, you need to be bordering on obsessive with improving processes. You need to have a mindset where any problem (including technically tricky ones) is yet another fun opportunity to play the game of figuring out what the real problem is and then developing some cunning tweak to the process or design that eliminates the problem forever. If you get a thrill out of doing that, you’re the person we’re looking for. If you have experience with LEAN or better yet, 6-sigma, there’ll be some high-fives around here when your application comes in. But if your idea of a great day at work is just fixing a faulty board and shipping it off the customer, please hit the back button on your browser now.
But wait, there’s more: you also need to be good with people. If you’re great with process, but every person you deal with ends up complaining at HR, then things will get awkward pretty quickly. You need to have developed a way of getting things done while at the same time getting people to want to help you. Not everyone can do that – but that’s what we need.
On top of all of that, you also need to be good at electronics. We have in mind that you’ll have a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field; but if you think your mix of qualifications and experience will hit the mark, please apply anyway. If you’ve got experience with electronics production equipment (like SMD robots, reflow ovens, automatic test equipment jigs, etc) then there will also be high-fives.
Now, let’s get to the question of why a role in Australia is being advertised in Germany. We need a set of skills that are not exactly common (the word “Unicorn” was mentioned while we drafted the Australian equivalent of this ad). There is an electronics-manufacturing industry in Australia, and it’s bigger than you think, so there are people like this in Australia – just not many. At Elexon, we only want the very best people. We’re guessing that there are many more people with the skills and attitude we need in Germany than in Australia. If we need to advertise in Germany to get the very best, then that’s what we’ll do – hence this ad. If you’re wondering why you would want to move to Australia, then you haven’t been here yet. Better yet: we’re just north of Brisbane. We enjoy a sub-tropical climate and still have a modern city nearby. If you work at Elexon, you can choose to live on 8000 m2 of land (which we call “acreage”), on the beach or in the city. We’re 45 minutes from beaches that are better than Hawaii’s. Look up on Google what the weather is like here: you probably won’t believe it, but it’s true!

However, Australia is so beautiful that it’s very difficult to get a resident visa. That’s for a very good reason: if everyone who wanted to live here could come, Australia wouldn’t be beautiful anymore. But if you’re the person we need, we can employer-sponsor your visa and get you into this truly awesome country within a few months (subject to possible COVID-related delays).
So … if you’re the right person for this role, please apply. You (probably) won’t regret it!
