Job Description Duties As senior lawyer you will work closely with the Principal Lawyers and the Branch Manager of the AAT Legal Services Branch to manage and advise on matters before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) through the provision of high-quality legal services and the development of the Agency’s in-house legal practice.

The duties of the senior lawyer include:
•Providing excellent legal services in the areas of administrative law, litigation and statutory interpretation.
•Managing a small team of lawyers with carriage of matters in the AAT and instructing external lawyers and counsel.
•Appearing at case conferences, directions hearings and the like in the AAT and instructing counsel in hearings.
•Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients, people with disability and their representatives, and other stakeholders, including courts and tribunals, other Australian Government agencies, and the legal profession.
•Managing the priorities of clients and available resources to deliver results on time and within budget.


Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship. Failure to do so may jeopardise your offer of employment.
Dependent on the role the appropriate working with children and/or vulnerable people checks may need to be undertaken as per State Legislation.


Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term

This non-ongoing position will be offered for a specified term of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to three years.
