$115,899 - $130,733 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Campbell Park - ACT The Role
EL 1 Fraud Investigators primarily undertake complex investigations into a range of fraud and corruption matters including criminal, administrative and disciplinary issues that impact on the Department of Defence.
EL 1 Fraud Investigators also lead and manage a small team of Senior Investigators undertaking similar work, managing performance and workload, and guiding and developing people.

The duties of an EL 1 Fraud Investigator in Defence include the following:
Plan, lead and manage a team to achieve the objectives of very complex investigations into serious misconduct and fraud related offences.
Manage allocated resources and competing priorities to achieve efficient outcomes for investigations in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
Deliver high quality advice to key stakeholders on fraud and corruption matters.
Inform and provide advice to groups and services on the outcomes of very complex investigations.
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external counterparts and stakeholders.
Liaise with federal, state and territory police, the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution, and other state and commonwealth agencies on investigation activities.
Evaluate and monitor investigative procedures and policies in order to maintain currency with emerging processes and techniques.
Interpret and apply relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks to investigation activities.
Analyse and investigate reports of fraud or misconduct and use sound judgment to categorise the jurisdiction, complexity and seriousness of all allegations.
Develop and deliver high quality reports, briefings and advice which are appropriate and relevant to the audience, and demonstrate effective decision making.
About our Team
The Directorate of Investigations in the Investigations and Public Interest Disclosure Branch delivers Defence's fraud and corruption investigations capability.
The Directorate works closely with other Defence Investigative Authorities to support the organisation's response to integrity risks.

Fraud investigations are a critical element of Defence's system of control for preventing, detecting and dealing with fraud and corruption, enabling Defence's compliance with the Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework 2024 and Fraud and Corruption Rule 2024.

Through effective and timely responses to alleged fraud and corruption including investigations resulting in successful prosecution of fraud and corruption offences, the Directorate has key role in preventing and dealing with fraud in Defence.
The work of the Directorate contributes to mitigating risk of fraud against Defence and the Commonwealth more broadly, which is critical to ensuring funds are available for their intended purpose and maintaining public confidence in the Government.

We are looking for experienced investigators who have a proven ability to work independently and lead a small team to achieve strong performance outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly driven professional investigator and demonstrate the following qualities and abilities:
Experience and/or qualifications in investigations or similar.
An understanding of fraud and corruption in a Commonwealth context, or the ability to obtain.
A motivated and engaged team player with sound decision making skills.
Has a high level of integrity both inside and outside the work environment.
Is willing and able to travel interstate outside of normal business hours.
Ability to work effectively within a framework of legislation, policy and procedures to maintain the trust and confidence of Defence senior leadership and the Australian Government.
Represent senior leadership to provide quality, trusted and timely advice through delivering an investigative response function in support of enabling Defence capability.
