Your Part in Our Residential Care Team
GSL provides residential care for children and young people with disabilities and complex histories of trauma, abuse, and neglect. As a team member, you will become a key figure in their lives, helping them develop life skills, form healthy attachments, and supporting them through their most challenging moments. Together, you will navigate difficult times, with the ultimate goal of guiding them toward a fulfilled and independent life.
We are seeking disability support workers who are looking for long-term employment in a supportive environment that values diverse skillsets. We have permanent and casual positions, so the option of starting as casual and moving quickly into a permanent position is available.
Join our small team in one of our seven houses, where you'll focus on helping young people achieve their independence goals, fostering skill development, and providing personalized care to enhance their daily lives. Your responsibilities in this role include:

Building and promoting a positive and caring environment that supports the children and young people residing in our homes. Forming and maintaining professional, nurturing relationships by building trust through visible interest and active engagement. Maintaining safety by effectively implementing Behavior Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans. Working with young people using attachment and trauma-informed care practices. Ensuring all essential needs are met, including providing a balanced diet, prompts for hygiene, support for school engagement, and creating positive life experiences. Demonstrating an empathetic understanding of complex trauma and incorporating this understanding into everyday interactions. Mentoring and coaching children and young people to help them achieve their goals. Acting as a positive adult role model, engaging young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth. Assisting and supporting children and young people to develop connections and build their capacity to be part of their community. Skills and Experiences:
A strong alignment with our values and mission. Completed, or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) is essential. Experience in working with individuals with complex needs and behaviors of concern is highly regarded. A positive, 'can do' attitude and flexibility in your work schedule. Availability to work at least 4 days a week. Availability to do shifts between 6am - 10pm and sleep-overs. Availability to work at least 20 hours each week. Excellent literacy skills for writing case notes and comfort navigating IT systems (all client records are online). The ability to maintain confidentiality, self-organization, and attention to detail. What We Need
A current Disability Worker Screening Clearance Card & Blue Card (Working with Children) before commencing work. Child Safety and Personal History Screening Check (LCS 2). Mobile phone. Current unrestricted Queensland Driver's Licence and insured vehicle. What We Offer
Starting remuneration at SCHADS award Level 2 (dependent on experience), plus superannuation. Security of reserved shifts every fortnight, with the option for extra hours if desired.
