As the Director of Planning and Authorisations at the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), you will lead a team of experts responsible for developing and maintaining the planning and approvals frameworks for effective forest and fire management across Victoria's public lands.

In this pivotal role, you will engage with key stakeholders across government, driving continuous improvement in strategic, operational and tactical planning.

As a key leader within the Forest and Fire Operations Division (FFOD), you will collaborate with Bushfire and Forest Services (BFS) and broader DEECA teams to implement effective planning processes and tools, enabling successful delivery of forest and fire management works in line with state and federal legislative obligations.

About you: To be successful in the role, you will have:

Demonstrated understanding of state and commonwealth policy and legislation related to land and environmental management. Qualifications in emergency or environmental management, law, public policy or other related discipline will be highly regarded. Extensive experience in a senior leadership position in a large, regionally dispersed organisation will be highly regarded. Ability to build a culture of collaboration within the organisation and with external stakeholders, overcoming communication barriers. Expertise in guiding strategic planning processes, developing shared visions, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Proficiency in evaluating complex problems across various topics and delivering sustainable, tangible business solutions. Experience in driving organizational change and fostering a culture that embraces continuous improvement. About the organisation We employ more than 7,000 staff, who work from more than 82 locations throughout Victoria, across the portfolios of energy, environment, climate action, water, agriculture and resources. Our challenge is to maintain Victoria's liveability, with a population expected to almost double by 2050, while responding to climate change and protecting our natural environment, infrastructure and heritage for future generations. This is a fixed term position available for a period of up to 5 years. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
