Your new role
We are seeking a strategic and innovative leader for the position of Deputy Director, Research and Systems as one of two Deputy Director roles. This senior management role will lead a portfolio encompassing the Research Services team and the Systems & Infrastructure team. You will play a key role in driving innovative, client-focused services to support research, collections, digital experiences, exhibitions and public programs. As a member of the Library's senior leadership team, you will develop and implement new strategies and initiatives to respond to the changing landscape of scholarly publishing in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction & Planning: Lead the development and implementation of strategies that align with the University's objectives and emerging trends in academic libraries and scholarly communication.
Leadership & Business Transformation: Provide strategic portfolio level leadership for the Research Services and Systems & Infrastructure teams, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence and continuous improvement.
People Management: Mentor and inspire staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment by providing guidance and support to team members in the delivery of services and initiatives to ensure individual growth and development.
John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library (JCPML): Lead the ongoing development and promotion of the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library archive and the Library's special collections, ensuring they meet academic and community needs.
Budget Management: Manage and monitor the Library's collection budget, ensuring an effective return on investment to support University requirements.
Technology & Infrastructure Innovation: Provide strategic vision for leveraging and implementing innovative systems, disruptive technologies, and physical infrastructure that enhance the design and delivery of leading-edge library services.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Curtin departments (Research Office, Finance, Faculties, Digital & Technology), service providers, academic publishers, and professional library networks.

Selection Criteria:
A relevant postgraduate qualification and extensive experience at senior management level within a complex management environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Considerable expertise and extensive experience in the development and effective delivery of services in a large academic library or similar organisation, including knowledge of future trends and relevant benchmarks.
Proven skills in leading, motivating and developing a large team, including the ability to drive and implement organisational change in a rapidly changing environment.
Demonstrated experience in responding to emerging and competing priorities to deliver significant initiatives in a volatile environment.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills alongside interpersonal skills of a calibre required to develop and maintain nuanced relationships and partnerships with staff and students, senior managers, professional colleagues and external organisations.
Experience in developing and managing complex budgets and delivering projects on time and within budget.
Demonstrated experience in managing difficult and multi-faceted matters with sound judgement and sensitivity utilising negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
A postgraduate qualification in librarianship or an aligned discipline.
