The College is a co-educational day and boarding school in Clayfield, Brisbane, that offers boys and girls all the benefits of single-sex and co-education on one campus through the distinctive Parallel Learning model.Position OverviewThe Dean of Wellbeing and Safeguarding is a middle leadership role responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students at the College. This position will work closely with the Deputy Principal – Pastoral| Head of Primary, and lead initiatives that promote student wellbeing and ensure compliance with child protection legislation.ResponsibilitiesParticipate in Christian learning or service activities and model and advocate the Christian ethos of the College and the PMSA.Plan, prepare, deliver and assess effective learning and teaching programs.Create and maintain productive learning environments which support the learning needs of students at the College.Contribute to the implementation of the College Strategic Plan.Support and contribute to the maintenance of the pastoral and spiritual ethos of the College.Display a thorough knowledge of contemporary pedagogy through excellent teaching practice, including the integration of technology.Willingly and voluntarily contribute to the College co-curricular program.Leadership and StrategyAssist with the development of the wellbeing strategy that aligns with the College's vision and values.Assist in leading the College's safeguarding practices, ensuring that all staff understand and adhere to policies related to child protection and child safe practices.Line Lead the Heads of Year in Secondary School and chair the Secondary School Pastoral Care Team.Oversight of the Outdoor Education Program.Child Protection LegislationEnsure compliance with all relevant child protection legislation and guidelines, including reporting procedures and mandatory reporting obligations.Stay informed about changes in legislation and best practices in safeguarding and child protection to continually enhance the school's policies.Assist with writing and developing policies and documents related to wellbeing, safeguarding and Child Protection.Assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of wellbeing programs that address the diverse needs of students, focusing on mental health, resilience, and positive relationships.Collaborate with staff of the College to integrate wellbeing initiatives into the curriculum and classroom practices.Attend school camps as required.Support and InterventionProvide guidance and support to staff in responding to student concerns, including mental health issues and incidents of abuse or neglect.Work closely with families, external agencies, and community organisations to support students in need.Responsibility for re-entry and re-engagement plans and meetings in consultation with Heads of Year, Dean of Primary and other key stakeholders.Organise and assist with the Behaviour Management Process in Secondary School.Set high standards for students, upholding the College's values and fostering a culture of positive relationships.Training and DevelopmentDevelop and facilitate training programs for staff on safeguarding practices, child protection legislation, and supporting student wellbeing.Foster a culture of continuous professional development in relation to safeguarding and student support.Monitoring and ReportingEstablish and maintain robust systems for monitoring student wellbeing and safeguarding concerns.Prepare reports regarding wellbeing initiatives, incidents, trends, ensuring transparency and accountability.Critical Response ManagementAssist the College's Critical Response Team, when involvement of student safety and wellbeing, ensuring effective communication and support strategies are in place.Develop and review critical response management protocols related to safeguarding issues.Community EngagementPromote awareness of wellbeing and safeguarding issues within the school community through workshops, seminars, and newsletters.Build strong relationships with families, ensuring they are informed and engaged in their children's wellbeing.Key Selection CriteriaProspective applicants should consider these criteria carefully in assessing their suitability for this position.
