The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for a Cyber Security Operations Manager to join our team in Melbourne, Perth, or Sydney. As part of our ambitious three-year security strategy, we've launched a whole-of-enterprise security capability with a strong focus on enhancing our threat-led cyber operations function. This includes new tooling, a commitment to training and development, and the creation of a red team to strengthen our defensive posture. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this role will lead the day-to-day operations of our Security Operations Centre (SOC), with a strong focus on threat intelligence, threat modelling, and security risk assessments. You will oversee all operational security functions, including threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and proactive threat hunting. Additionally, you will be responsible for embedding threat intelligence into operational workflows, ensuring the SOC is continuously evolving to address and pre-empt emerging threats. Your role will be integral to safeguarding a critical part of Australia's national infrastructure, ensuring the security of our network and services, which are essential to national security and prosperity. You will have the opportunity to build and lead a team of security analysts, drive the development of our red team, and implement advanced threat-led defensive strategies, ensuring our SOC operates with agility and precision. This role offers the potential to evolve into a Deputy CISO position, depending on your skills, experience, and performance.What you'll be doing day-to-day As the Cyber Security Operations Manager, you will lead the management of Vocus' security tools, ensuring effective threat detection, incident response, and proactive threat hunting. A key part of your role will be integrating threat modelling and threat intelligence into day-to-day security operations to anticipate, identify, and mitigate potential risks before they impact the business. You'll also contribute to security risk assessments, ensuring our approach aligns with the ever-evolving threat landscape and supports business objectives. You will also help drive automation and leverage artificial intelligence to help Vocus achieve scale and speed for its security operations. Your responsibilities include evaluating and deploying new technologies to strengthen our security capabilities and future-proof our defences. You'll mentor development and delivery teams on secure practices, collaborate on authentication, encryption, and authorisation solutions, and drive vulnerability assessments and penetration testing. You'll also manage compliance reporting and ensure timely, effective remediation strategies are implemented. In addition, you'll play a vital role in shaping and enforcing corporate security policies that meet stringent legal, technical, and regulatory requirements. You'll oversee security controls for IT projects, advocate for best practices, and build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals. Recruiting and developing security talent will be key, as will maintaining technical documentation and providing escalated support for complex security challenges. In this hands-on leadership role, you'll champion security awareness across the organisation, lead incident response efforts, and actively contribute to risk assessments. Collaboration with teams across the business will be essential in driving continuous improvement and strengthening our overall security posture. What you'll bring to this role Proven Leadership: You have a demonstrated ability in building and leading high-performing security operations teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a focus on fostering collaboration and supporting your team members. Threat-Led Expertise: You bring deep experience in threat modelling, threat intelligence, read teaming and proactive threat hunting. Technical Mastery: You possess hands-on expertise in managing security tools including EDR, NDR, SIEM and vulnerability management platforms, security operations centres, and security incident response. You're adept at implementing advanced detection technologies and leveraging threat intelligence to drive decision-making. Automation and AI-Driven Innovation: You have experience driving automation initiatives and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency and precision of security operations. You understand how to integrate AI tools to streamline threat detection, response, and analysis, enabling faster, more effective defences. Security Innovation: You thrive on disruptive thinking and are always looking for new ways to solve existing challenges. You have a track record of evaluating and implementing new technologies that enhance security capabilities. Strategic Thinking: You are experienced in contributing to security risk assessments and aligning security strategies with business objectives. Your approach ensures that security operations not only protect, but also support, business growth and resilience. Stakeholder Management: You are skilled in managing relationships with security partners, vendors, and internal stakeholders. You ensure that security operations are aligned with business goals and that customer expectations are consistently met. Compliance and Governance: You have a solid understanding of legal, technical, and regulatory frameworks, and experience in developing, enforcing, and maintaining corporate security policies and procedures. Communication and Clarity: You communicate complex security issues with precision and clarity, ensuring both technical and non-technical stakeholders understand the key risks and actions required. Passion for Continuous Improvement: You're committed to the ongoing development of security operations, with a focus on driving improvements, fostering a security-first culture, and keeping Vocus at the forefront of cybersecurity. Autonomy and Judgement: You have strong decision-making capabilities, with sound judgement and the ability to operate independently, ensuring swift, informed responses to security incidents and threats. This role will require you to hold a NV1 Australian Government Security Clearance, or you are able to obtain a security clearance.
