Closing Date: Continuous Open Job Summary: The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a driven leader to join our team as Associate Deputy Warden. Under the direction of the Unit Deputy Warden, the incumbent will provide leadership and supervision of unit activities and is responsible for the safety and security of staff and inmates. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and developing diverse groups of staff, progressive administrative experience in managing inmate populations at various custody levels, monitoring and directing unit operations, security, and inmate programming. They will assist the Deputy Wardens in applying ADCRR's vision using modern correctional practices.
Job Duties: - Ensures the safety and security of staff and inmates
- Oversees the development and operation of work, education, and recreational programs for the inmates
- Coordinates and monitors a variety of program areas within the institution
- Oversees inmate management to include grievances, appeals, classification, discipline, transfers, etc.
- Conducts investigations, training, and security and physical plant inspections
- Prepares and evaluates reports of findings and recommendations to ensure compliance with ADC policies and health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Oversees physical plant facilities in unit and inmate movements
- Reviews and approves all unit personnel actions including training, scheduling, performance evaluations, discipline, hiring, and terminations
- Develops and proposes policy changes regarding security and programs issues in the unit
- Completes special projects
- Conducts management staff meetings
- Attends training and/or meetings as required
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of:
- State and federal laws and regulations relating to Corrections, department policies, institutional directives, and personnel rules
- Physical layout of the institution, the organizational structure, security systems, and institutional managerial practices
- Inmate management methods
- Classification system and levels appropriate to all levels of security and inmates
- Reporting practices
Skill in:
- Written and verbal communications
- Administrative, managerial, leadership, and supervisory techniques
- Planning and projection of staff and inmate needs
- Time management
- Researching, analyzing, and problem-solving
Ability to:
- Work in a prison environment
- Adhere to all Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Create comprehensive yet concise reports
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the correctional program and divisional operations based on objective data
- Establish and maintain working relationships

Selective Preference(s): - At least one year of experience as a Correctional Officer IV or Correctional Captain
- Bachelor's degree or actively enrolled in Criminal Justice/Corrections, Public Administration, or Behavior Science

Pre-Employment Requirements: Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
