The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.
The QFD is an organisation that is focused on reframing the department's relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability.
Purpose of the role The Communications team provides communication advice, strategies and plans in the delivery of statewide public safety advertising campaigns, research and evaluation, and executive communications for internal and external audiences.
This includes communication support to the Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery, QFD's Executive Leadership team, operational areas and business units to support approved communication activities and initiatives, and achieve the department's strategic objectives.
Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, you will be for delivering key internal and external communications products for the Minister, the Executive Leadership team and other senior leaders, including speeches and media releases, developing and implementing communications plans and creating digital content.
Working closely with other business units and key stakeholders, you will also provide communications assistance and support for other departmental communications products, including advertising campaigns, corporate ID management, and communications that promote QFD to our paid and volunteer workforce, the public sector and the community.
Key requirements Highly desirable requirements Relevant qualification in a communications related area (i.e.
Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing) or demonstrated experience in a media environment.
Your key accountabilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: Assist in the provision of accurate and timely advice, preparation and implementation of internal and external communication strategies, including innovative and creative communication solutions to support departmental strategic priorities.
Contribute to the team's work in the preparation, production and distribution of collateral, such as speeches, media releases, web content, publications, brochures and other communication tools, so it is accurate, clear, concise and effectively meets client's needs.
Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with departmental staff, the Ministers and Commissioner's offices as well as key external stakeholders and other government agencies to ensure all stakeholders are effectively engaged.
Compile, review and report on data to measure and evaluate the success of internal communications, ensuring communications products are effectively meeting the information needs of QFD's paid and volunteer workforce.
Assist with the management of corporate identity to ensure compliance with guidelines and to protect and enhance the value of the QFD brand.
Assist in the coordination of official program launches, displays, events and presentations to ensure they meet department and community expectations.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Communication Unit by actively innovating and improving strategies, processes and systems to produce appropriate outcomes from communications activities.
