Selection CriteriaKSC1: Demonstrated understanding of teaching students with special needs and to be able to plan and deliver appropriate programs for these students.KSC2: Demonstrated capacity to work with a collaborative team to promote and foster positive behaviour practices.KSC3: Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess students who have a learning disability, and to use assessment data to inform teaching for improved student learning.KSC4: Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents, outside stakeholders and other staff.KSC5: Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities and a commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise and teaching capacity.RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions;Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Location ProfileCoburg Special Developmental School caters for 62 students aged 5-18 with an intellectual disability typically with an IQ below 50. Some students have additional learning needs such as challenging behaviours, communication, and high sensory needs. We provide a caring and challenging environment that enhances learning, personal growth, and wellbeing for all students.
We are looking for staff who are eager to join a team that will make a difference for our school. It is an exciting time of change for our school where we are developing some great existing programs (SW-PBIS) and our functional Transition program for the later years and introducing some new and innovative programs (play based learning & child centred learning).
Our current strategic plan in 2024 ensures communication, functional skills and social and emotional learning are embedded through all aspects of our programs.
This vacancy is to replace an employee on parental absence and is for a period of seven years or until the employee absent on leave returns to duty at the school.
